Marine Coordinator

"As Marine Coordinator for the Gunfleet Sands Offshore Wind Farm I coordinate personnel and vessels to ensure that marine operations are carried out safely and efficiently.

I am responsible for keeping track of the workforce under CDM regulations 2007. I carry out safety inductions for staff and contractors and to date have trained 400 of the 1600 personnel on site.

Another priority is to coordinate the numerous vessels working on the project; I keep a log of movements and give advice on maritime legislation. I produce notices and warnings for skippers, which includes weather and tidal information. I also act as an interface between the electricity company and mariners to rely messages and deal with any issues. I use SeaPlanner applications on a day-to-day basis to help me coordinate the marine aspects of the project.

Prior to working for SeaRoc I was at sea for 14 years; I began in a cadetship and then trained as a watch navigator, then onto chief officer and finally master. I have worked on a variety of vessels from war ships and cruise ships to tender vessels and large tugs.
I decided to move onshore because I wanted to use my skills and experience to become more involved with the managerial side of projects. Being familiar with vessels, health and safety and maritime legislation is a vital to my role as Marine Coordinator."
